Description
Enjoy a day tour to Amberd – the 7th century fortress located on the slopes of Mount Aragats in Aragatsotn province. Located 50 km north of Yerevan, the fortress was built to protects its inhabitants and people living in the area against invadors. Amberd is located at an elevation of 2,300m above the sea level and its name means a “fortress in the clouds”. Although the site has been a stone age settlment, a fortress has been built during the bronze age by Kamsarakan Family.
Explore the fortress area of 1,500 sq.m then walk to the bathhouse built between 10 -11th centuries. Continue to Vahramashen Surp Astvatsatsin Church built in 1026 for prince Vahram Pahlavuni – an Armenian noble family and a branch of Kamsarakan.
